Job Description:

The Vice President of Operations is an experienced manufacturing and operations leader who has generated significant impact through the strategic and tactical direction of multiple manufacturing facilities. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the role will be accountable for integrated planning, execution, and optimization of the organization’s end-to-end operations including order management, production planning, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution.

Responsibilities:

Operations, Manufacturing & Supply Chain:

  • Develop and implement production plans, evaluating and providing feedback around equipment efficiency, materials supply constraints, schedules, and team requirements to meet production objectives,
  • Build preventive maintenance plans and manage maintenance, engineering, and commissioning internally including experience with coordinating safety evaluations such as PSRs,
  • Develop and implement appropriate lean manufacturing practices to optimize production and procurement processes,
  • Establish processes and practices to effectively manage Supply Chain, Logistics (including 3PL relationships) and Procurement, including for contract manufacturing,
  • Ensure health and safety is prioritized and executed within plant operations,
  • Accountable for leading daily operations across current and future potential manufacturing facilities with the Plant Manager(s) to ensure maximum operational efficiency
  • Liaise with the other Zentek departments with business related to manufacturing, to ensure good cooperation and communication between departments,
  • Collaborate with quality and regulatory departments to meet regulatory and certification (ISO, etc.) requirements.

Culture, Leadership & People Management:

  • Sets professional development plan with the team and executes growth through coaching, mentoring and by providing training and guidance
  • Establishes and continually improves standards and processes, implementing them effectively (SOPs, checklists, playbooks, etc.) while instilling a strong continuous improvement culture,
  • Prepare and manage operating budgets and implement a system of cost and efficiency reporting,
  • Build a strong culture, team spirit and retention of the people both on the shopfloor and within the manufacturing support functions,
  • Measure the effectiveness of the team through the creation and implementation of performance management activities and the development of key performance indicators, while devoted time to lessons learned.

Experience & Key Attributes:

The ideal VP of Operation is a team-oriented leader who advocates for collaboration across and within teams, open communication and promotes cross-department collaboration.

  • University/college education within manufacturing and engineering (eg. Mechanical, process, materials, chemical etc.); P.Eng preferred,
  • 10-15 years of progressive operations experience in an industrial products business with at least 5 years in a people leadership capacity
  • Experience across supply chain, including procurement, logistics and manufacturing,
  • Lean Manufacturing experience,
  • Experience with ISO certifications (eg. 9000, 9001, 13485) and Robust QMS systems in regulated industries
  • Experience growing and leading a fast-paced, international, industrial business unit or mid-market company
  • Strong interpersonal skills; history of training or team execution in emotional intelligence, DE&I, change management, and effective leadership skills are a valuable asset
  • Experience in warehouse management, international logistics and complex procurement
  • Experience in building performing teams and developing/hiring supervisors across multiple sites
  • Excellent financial leadership capabilities (P&L, budgeting, capital management)
  • A team orientated leader, who is comfortable to roll up their sleeves and lead from the front
