MediaStack-ARIB-J
ARIB-J is the name of Japanese specification that was developed based on the DVB-MHP (Multimedia Home Platform) specification formed in the Europe. "J" in ARIB-J means for Java. Initially, ARIB-J referred to both DVB-MHP and GEM standards. But from V1.1 it ceased to refer DVB-MHP directly and referred all GEM standard. Therefore, current ARIB-J specification is formed with GEM standard as its basis.
GEM standard is the standard specified by MUG (MHP Umbrella Group), a group formed by standardization bodies from three areas, i.e. DVB in Europe, ARIB in Japan, and CableLabs in the States in order to promote the DVB-MHP standard that was specified as the next generation interactive digital TV broadcasting all over the world. From this GEM standard, various standards were formed including OCAP for the States, ARIB-J for Japan and BD-J for Blu-ray Disc to name a few.
DVB -MHP (GEM standard) realizes digital TV applications as the common specification for middleware platform of interactive contents using a Java based common API. Java is a generic and highly portable language that enables description of applications by programming.
In Japan, the standard was specified as ARIB STD B-23 but it is not decided yet if ARIB will put it into practice. However, we have experience on DVB-MHP and OCAP development and already has solution supporting part of ARIB-J. We can support it in a short time when it is officially adopted.
